Our European Debut: Reflections and Learnings from Kind + Jugend in Cologne
Stepping into the Koelnmesse exhibition halls this September marked a major milestone for Nueplay: our very first showcase in the European Union, presenting our vision directly on the global stage at Kind + Jugend.
When we founded Nueplay, our goal was simple: to design infant toys and developmental essentials that balance minimalist aesthetics, safe materials, and purposeful play for modern parents. Bringing that vision to Cologne allowed us to test those principles face-to-face with the global nursery and toy industry.
Connecting Across Borders
Over three fast-paced days, our booth became a hub for cross-cultural conversations. We welcomed distributors, retail buyers, and industry peers from across Europe and beyond—including partners from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and Argentina.
Sharing our products in person gave us direct insight into regional market nuances:
- European design sensibilities: Buyers consistently responded to calm color palettes, tactile textures, and clutter-free silhouettes that integrate smoothly into home living spaces.
- Safety and educational value: Conversations centered on developmental utility—how sensory elements, motor-skill development, and non-toxic standards come together in daily parenting routines.
Real Feedback as Our Design Compass
For a young, evolving brand, direct feedback from experienced international buyers is irreplaceable. Rather than viewing the fair simply as a sales venue, we treated it as an open listening post.
Every comment—from retail packaging expectations and localized compliance questions to specific feature requests—was documented. This practical input bridges the gap between digital consumer data and physical shelf appeal, providing clear direction as we refine our production roadmap for the coming seasons.
Looking Ahead
We left Cologne energized by the genuine enthusiasm for our collection and the commercial partnerships now taking shape across multiple continents.
Thank you to every visitor, partner, and collaborator who stopped by our booth, held our products, and shared their perspectives with us. We are already back in the studio transforming these learnings into our next generation of designs.
See you next year in Cologne.
